The isolation insulator is installed far away from the electrical components it supports, and its function is essentially as a thread isolator. They are most commonly used to regulate the current in the conductor, or in the conductive elements of switchgear and transformers (although these elements are usually specified with an insulating medium rather than an arrangement).
